Team Formation
Due: Week 3 (see Upcoming Deadlines for the exact date)
Overview
The final project is completed in groups of four. You will work with your team across the entire semester — from problem discovery in Week 3 through final presentations in Week 16. Choosing teammates carefully is worth the time.
We will have our first group activity on Monday, September 21st. All teams must be finalized and submitted to E3, at the latest, by the end of day on Friday, September 25th.
Requirements
- Groups must have exactly four members — no exceptions. Groups of three or five will be asked to restructure before the deadline.
- All members must be enrolled in CSIS30216 for Fall 2026.
- Each student may be in only one group.
- Groups are self-formed — you choose your own teammates.
How to Find Teammates
If you do not yet have a full group, here are a few ways to connect with other students:
- Post on the discussion board for team formation on E3 to find people to work with.
- Talk to people sitting near you in the Week 1 and Week 2 lectures — the best teams often form from people who are already in the same room.
- Email the course instructor or TAs if you are having difficulty finding teammates — we will help connect students who need groups before the deadline.
When choosing teammates, consider:
- Availability and work style — do you have compatible schedules for outside-class collaboration?
- Complementary strengths — a mix of backgrounds (systems, web, research, design thinking) tends to produce stronger projects than a group of specialists in the same area.
- Communication preferences — teams that agree on how they will communicate before starting tend to have fewer conflicts later.
What to Submit
Submit one document per group to E3 by end of day Friday, September 25th. The document should include:
- Group member 1: full name and student ID
- Group member 2: full name and student ID
- Group member 3: full name and student ID
- Group member 4: full name and student ID
- One sentence describing what kind of collaboration problem your group is interested in exploring — this is not binding, just a starting direction
Submit as a txt or markdown file. File name: TeamFormation.txt or TeamFormation.md.
Deadline
What Happens After You Submit
Your group identifier is confirmed by the teaching team in Week 3.
In the Week 3 lab (September 21st), your team will:
- Set up a shared GitHub repository with branch protection
- Write a draft AI usage guidelines document
- Write a draft evaluation plan
These are the first graded project artifacts — worth 2% of your final grade. Teams that are not formed by Week 3 class will not be able to complete the lab together.
